The Bar

The Bar

You will find The Library Bar at The Copenhagen Plaza Hotel, that opened its doors for the first time in 1914. The bar was however firstly created in 1970s, in the place where the original restaurant once was, previously known as The Tapestry Room.
The tapestries are no longer there, they can be found in other parts of the hotel, however today the walls are covered with dark, wooden and elegant panels.

The shelves are filled with old leather bound books, and some are even first editions. The paintings on the walls portrait old noble folk and the soft lighting provides an intimate atmosphere.

The Library Bar has been subject to many exiting evenings and many of the world’s greatest personalities have stayed in the hotel.
The grand Wall of Fame tells a story of a spectacular time where the jetsetters of those days partied in a pompous, and at times scandalous way.

The Music

The Libray Bar is not a music venue. But, the music has played a central role for the Bar’s atmosphere. Jazz has been the preferred soundtrack of The Bar for the last 15 years. Many musicians have filled The Bar with tones of Live Jazz on the selected Saturday nights. Small intimate concerts have been a secret treasure for few chosen and interested.

Even the famous Danish musician Thomas Blachman and his ensemble Ginman – Blachman – Dahl has recorded a Jazz album in the bar with the title: ”At The Plaza – The Library Bar Concerts”.
The record is history’s first all-danish release on the legendary American jazz label “Verve”. A copy of the record hangs on the wall in the bar, with photos.

Live music is today still an important part of the bar, so keep an eye out on the calendar and experience the music in historic surroundings.

Cocktails & Drinks: Where are the cigars…?

When the bar opened in the 1970s and up and through the 1980s Champagne, Cognac, Whiskys and Cigars were the trademark of the bar. Up until 2007 when the smoking ban started, the Bar was especially known as the Best Cigar Lounge in Copenhagen.
Today the cigars are nowhere to be found, even the beautiful humidor is gone.
The cognac, the single malts and the champagne is still to be found, but today we focus on drinks and cocktails.
Here you can experience Copenhagen’s best Mojitos, the original Singapore Sling with the Danish liquor Cherry Herring and of course The Plaza Champagne Cocktail that was invented in the hotel and it is a potent drink!
